A Commemoration Program Was Organized for the 85th Anniversary of the Death of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk

On the 85th anniversary of the death of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of our Republic, a commemoration program was held at Sabancı Cultural Center under the auspices of Izmir Governorship and hosted by Izmir Institute of Technology.

The program started with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, followed by the screening of a short film titled “Atatürk with Memories”.

İzmir Governor Dr. Süleyman Elban started his speech by commemorating Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk with mercy, gratitude and thanksgiving, pointing out that there were periods of heroism, sadness and struggle in Atatürk’s life, “The period Atatürk lived until the Republic was a period of heroism. He lost his father at a very young age. The Ottoman Empire was constantly bleeding and in distress. A part of the country’s territory was being lost every day. It was a period of great sadness that the land where he was born and grew up was being lost. It was a period of both hardship and struggle. His life includes a period of incredible heroism in Palestine, Tripoli, Gallipoli, Dumlupınar and the liberation of Izmir on September 9th. With the establishment of the Republic, he established a brand new state with an understanding far beyond the period. Until he breathed his last breath in 1938, he struggled with the dream of establishing such a state, building such a prosperous homeland, creating a citizen community that is developed in every aspect, and he succeeded because 100 years have passed and the Republic is still young, still standing, a state that is ahead of many developed countries in terms of democratic and legal values. Atatürk has a third era, we call it the era of eternity.”

In his speech, Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran stated that the feelings of gratitude and gratitude to Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his comrades-in-arms and intellectual friends continue to grow day by day: “We will work with the same feelings, see and understand the process of change and transformation that the world is going through, and manage this process in the most effective way on behalf of our country and nation, and build our bright future with the sweat of our foreheads and minds.”

After the speeches, a video titled “Mustafa Kemal Atatürk through the eyes of IZTECH’s international faculty members and students” was shown. In the program where poems were read, a recital of Atatürk’s favorite songs and a zeybek show
