IZTECH Library

Izmir Institute of Technology Department of Library and Documentation, which is dynamic and pioneered change, was established within the Institute in 1992 and moved to its own building with an area of 6.100 square meters and a seating capacity of 685 people in 2007. As a result of the study carried out by the Library in 2008, it was one of the 29 best library buildings in Europe in the last four years.

IZTECH Library, serves staff and students with 2 meeting rooms, 1 mind games hall, 2 multimedia rooms, 5 group-work rooms for 4 people, 4 group-work rooms for 8 people and 8 individual study rooms.

IZTECH Library is an innovative library that is a pioneer in many issues in the field of library in Turkey by making innovations such as the first mobile library website, the first Facebook application, the first mobile library catalog application, the first social media policy, the first mandatory open access policy, the first library starting RDA, the smart toolbar and the opportunity to scan the library records in Google books and world catalogs.

IZTECH staff and students can access to 53.947 printed books, 414.353 electronic books, 38.196 electronic journals, 39 current printed journals, 1793 master’s and doctoral dissertation, 67.991 audio-visual materials, 126 database in IZTECH Library. There is also the possibility of access to the databases from outside the campus as well as from inside the campus. In IZTECH Library, popular books and popular magazines are provided in electronic and printed form, and 8 e-book readers, chess, Go, box games, and various games and movies are lent.

IZTECH Library, which takes care to be everywhere users can reach, actively uses social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare in order to provide the best service whenever it is needed and makes it easier to access to the library staff and services.

In addition to library services, IZTECH Library continues to make a difference in both national and international levels, with its EU (European Union) projects, various meetings and events organized by other institutions, papers published in international refereed journals, and articles published in international journals.
