A New Global Achievement in IZTECH’s Sustainability Journey: 117th in the World in GreenMetric

Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH) continued its rise in the GreenMetric World University Rankings, which assess universities’ sustainability performance, climbing to 117th place worldwide.

IZTECH’s determined and consistent work in the field of sustainability has once again been recognized on an international scale. In the 2025 GreenMetric World University Rankings, in which 1,745 universities from 105 countries took part, IZTECH ranked 123rd; according to the 2026 results, among 2,016 universities from 110 countries, IZTECH climbed to 117th place, marking yet another significant achievement.

This success stands out as a result of environmentally conscious campus practices being addressed together with a holistic approach to work carried out in education, research, and sustainability.

Noting that the success achieved in the GreenMetric ranking reflects the international recognition of the university’s sustainability vision, IZTECH Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Baran offered the following assessment:

“As IZTECH, we take great pride in seeing the international recognition of our work in the field of sustainability grow stronger with each passing year. The fact that IZTECH, which ranked 217th in the GreenMetric World University Rankings in 2020, has now risen to 117th place is a concrete indicator of the steps we have taken in line with our sustainability vision and our determined efforts in this field.

Behind this meaningful rise lies the scientific output of our academics, the awareness of our students, and the dedicated efforts of all our colleagues. I sincerely thank the entire IZTECH family who have contributed to IZTECH’s sustainability journey.
